1. Introduction to the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD)

The Tobacco Products Directive (TPD) 2014/40/EU is an initiative by the European Union that places restrictions on the sale, merchandising, and manufacturing of tobacco and related products, including electronic cigarettes and e-liquids. In the United Kingdom, these rules were implemented through the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations (TRPR) 2016. The primary goal of these regulations is to improve the functioning of the internal market for tobacco and related products, while ensuring a high level of health protection for European citizens.

At Vapeslane, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our customers. This document outlines our commitment to compliance with TPD and TRPR regulations for all relevant products sold on our platform.

2. Product Restrictions and Standards

Under TPD/TRPR regulations, strict standards are enforced regarding the capacity, nicotine strength, and formulation of vaping products. We strive to ensure that all applicable products in our inventory adhere to the following key requirements:

  • E-Liquid Capacity: The maximum capacity of any e-cigarette tank, clearomizer, or pod containing nicotine must not exceed 2ml.
  • E-Liquid Bottle Size: The maximum volume of nicotine-containing e-liquid sold in a single refill container (bottle) must not exceed 10ml.
  • Nicotine Strength: The maximum concentration of nicotine in any e-liquid or vaping device must not exceed 20mg/ml (2.0%).
  • Ingredients and Formulation: E-liquids must not contain certain additives, including colorings, caffeine, taurine, or other stimulant compounds. Ingredients used must be of high purity and pose no risk to human health in heated or unheated form, with the exception of nicotine.

Note: "Shortfill" e-liquids (bottles larger than 10ml) contain 0mg (zero) nicotine and are therefore exempt from the capacity and strength limitations of the TPD, though they remain subject to general product safety regulations.

3. Packaging and Labeling Requirements

Proper packaging and labeling are critical components of TPD compliance. Products sold on our site are required to meet the following packaging standards:

  • Health Warnings: All nicotine-containing products must carry a prominent, prescribed health warning covering at least 30% of the front and back surfaces of the packaging (e.g., "This product contains nicotine which is a highly addictive substance.").
  • Child-Resistant and Tamper-Evident: E-liquid refill containers and devices must be child-resistant and tamper-evident to prevent accidental ingestion or exposure.
  • Information Leaflet: Products must include an information leaflet outlining instructions for use and storage, contra-indications, warnings for specific risk groups, possible adverse effects, addictiveness, and toxicity.
  • Protection Against Breakage and Leakage: Devices and refill mechanisms must be designed to prevent leakage during use and refilling.

4. Emissions Testing and Notification (ECID)

Before any nicotine-containing e-cigarette or e-liquid can be legally sold in the UK/EU, it must undergo rigorous emissions testing and be notified to the relevant regulatory body (such as the MHRA in the UK).

We require our suppliers and manufacturers to provide proof of compliance and valid European CEG (Common Entry Gate) Identification Numbers (ECID) for all applicable products. As a retailer, we only stock products that have been successfully notified by their respective manufacturers.

5. Product Safety and Quality Assurance

While the TPD sets the regulatory baseline, our commitment to quality extends beyond basic compliance. We work closely with our partners, distributors, and brands to ensure that the products we offer meet high manufacturing standards. If a manufacturer issues a recall or a product is found to be non-compliant or unsafe, we will take immediate action to remove the product from sale and notify affected customers in accordance with our safety protocols.

6. UK Sales Only

Vapeslane sells and delivers to UK addresses only. We do not ship vaping products outside the United Kingdom. In line with UK law, we do not sell single-use (disposable) vapes.
